FAQ

  • Why doesn't someone fix these places up?

There is no simple or single answer for this. A lot of these old dwellings are lacking septic systems and proper plumbing. Electricity and wiring is completely out dated. Sometimes there are no bathrooms in the house, as many of them had outhouses. The cost of these updates is a lot.

  • Why are so many of them empty?

Again, updates cost a lot. Also, sometimes people pass away and the children or next of kin have moved away or don’t want the house. Sometimes there is no power of attorney appointed and/or no will left behind. Other times people have good intentions and want to fix up the house, so they hold on to it and hope to be able to do so later in life or to keep it in their family.

  • Are they for sale?

Most of the time, no they are not or not to my knowledge. Sometimes I post houses for sale on my facebook page if I happen to notice a for sale sign or see a listing posted. However, just because a house is empty, does not mean its for sale.

  • The grass is mowed, so it's not abandoned is it?

You’re right, no it’s not. Also, just because a place “looks abandoned” doesn’t mean that it truly is. Chances are someone, somewhere owns these places.

  • Why don't you post locations?

I post counties and that is it in order to protect these places from others who might bring them harm, steal, or trespass.

  • Aren't you trespassing?

No. Anything I post is snapped either roadside or I had permission to be there. In the beginning, I did a little bit of trespassing as I had no clue what I was doing. But as I later learned, trespassing is not only illegal, but people get angry and I’d rather not be shot, fined, or thrown in jail for trying to take a photo.
